The building coordinator plays a critical role in implementing many emergency response procedures in each building on campus.  By ensuring that the right people are selected for the role and by providing the right tools and materials, these responsibilities can be properly carried out.

Selection:

Each cabinet officer should review the list of existing building coordinators and confirm or reselect building coordinators that meet the established job description and selection criteria, as follows:

• Senior manager or director level personnel
• Departmental or functional responsibility in the building\
• Direct reports or available staff to assist in handling administrative responsibilities inherent in the assignment

Orientation:

Building coordinators will receive a brief orientation to the assignment, conducted by the Safety Department regarding the roles and responsibilities of the assignment.   Building coordinators may be required to attend periodic seminars or refresher training on safety and emergency response procedures, as needed.

The building coordinator will create and maintain a binder for each building.  The binder should include:

• Building coordinator job description
• Departmental phone lists
•  Phone tree protocol and contacts
•  Building evacuation plan
•  Building key assignments and location of master key cabinet
•  Employee location report
•  List of trained emergency responders for building
•  Safety and emergency response procedures
